O Captain! My Captain!
Gather ye rosebuds while ye may,
old time is still a-flying,
and this same flower that smiles today,
tomorrow will be dying.
Carpe Diem.
No matter what anybody tells you, words and ideas can change the world. I've a little secret for you: we don't read and write poetry because it's cute. We read and write poetry because we are members of the human race, and the human race is filled with passion. And medicine, law, business, engineering... these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love... these are what we stay alive for.
Show me the heart unfettered by foolish dreams, and I'll show you a happy man.
But only in their dreams can men be truly free; 'Twas always thus, and always thus will be.
Oh, to struggle against great odds, to meet enemies undaunted.
To be a sailor of the world, bound for all ports.
Oh, I live to be the ruler of life, not a slave.
To dance, clap hands, exalt, shout, skip, roll on, float on.
To indeed be a god!
Now, we all have a great need for acceptance. But you must trust that your beliefs are unique, your own... even though others may think them odd or unpopular. Even though the herd may go: That's bad.
Robert Frost said: Two roads diverged in a wood and I, I took the one less travelled by, and that has made all the difference.
Sure there's a time for daring, and there's a time for caution. And a wise man understand which is called for.
